Nendaz, Part Of The Four Valleys Region

High above the Rhone Valley lies the beautiful village of Nendaz. It is about and hour and three quarter drive from Geneva airport. Nendaz is part of the Four Valleys region with easy access to Verbier. Combined with Verbier, Thyon, Siviez and Veysonnaz there is a total of 400km of pistes. The village has plenty of restaurants, bars, ski hire shops, sport and clothes shops. There are three supermarkets and a central sports centre with an outside ice rink and childcare.

The resort is located 1,400m high within the Four Valleys in the Swiss Alps. Further up stands the incredible glacier, Mont-Fort, and is around 2,000m higher than Nendaz, offering opportunities for incredible views of Mont Blanc. You can ski all year round in this area, with deep snow covering the ground throughout the year. Some of the best skiing in Europe can be found within the 412km of ski runs you'll find within the Four Valleys region, and the 92 lifts make access incredibly easy.

Verbier is the largest ski-resort in the Four Valleys, and it's within this ski mecca that Nendaz sits. The skiing in Verbier is incredible and it has even hosted the Speed Ski World Cup, the Freeride World Tour finals and the Patrouille des Glaciers a 53km ski mountaineering race which starts in Zermatt.

The ski area consists of four sections: Medran, Les Savoleyres, Mont Fort and Bruson in which there are thirty five lifts, two snowparks and four cross country areas. There are also two hiking areas which open up in summer, with 400km of trails.

Additionally, there is a variety of off-piste runs including the backside of Mont Fort, Croix de Coeur, Bec des Etagnes and a run called The Hidden Valley. It is occasionally possible to descend 700 metres from Verbier Village to Le Chable but this run is known to be highly hazardous. Alternatively, a run from Col des Gentiannes to Le Chable offers another challenging run that will provide more advanced skiers with a real test of their physicality and skill.

There are a number of ski schools, mountain guides and professional coaches to help you hone your skills in Verbier. Paragliding is a popular activity to take part in during the summer months, as well as swimming and cycling. The annual Verbier Music Festival is a popular celebration of classical and jazz music, bringing people from far and wide to experience the festival.

The 4 Valley ski area is a great place for the more advanced skier, some of the runs are challenging due to the sudden drops and steep declines. Of course, there are some easier pistes in the area that the ski schools and beginning skiers use. Siviez, easily accessible from Nendaz is a great beginners ski area as it is snow assured and allows beginners to experience skiing in the mountains straight away.

Whatever your level of experience is, you'll still find areas that suit your skiing ability. There truly is something for everyone here, with a variety of different levels of runs throughout the 4 Valleys. The Swiss Alps can be seen most days, as it is often clear and the sun is usually out.
